In the process of film adaptation of a literary work, certain elements are subjected to change. These modifications are due to the differences of the two artistic systems, or to the cultural context of each work. But despite the differences between the two systems, what is common to both of them is their artistic essence in the process of adaptation. In a film adaptation, we try to recreate the aesthetic effect of the source work in the second medium. It is to understand the process of reproduction of this aesthetic effect that we decided to conduct this research. To do this, we rely on the sémiostylistique theory where the degree of artisticness of a work depends only on the quality of its reception and the expectations of the receivers. In this perspective, we will analyze the short story 'Thanatos Palace Hotel' (1937) by André Maurois that has given rise to numerous cinematographic adaptations. Among these, we chose the short film, Thanatos Hotel, made in Russia in 2014. Thereby we will try to find out to what extent the belonging of these works to two different cultural contexts can influence the conception of adaptation.
