In this project, systematic theoretical studies of the non-covalent interactions from the crystal engineering viewpoint (chalcogen bond, hydrogen bond, π-π interaction) were performed based on the density functional theory (DFT) calculations. These studies, which are related to the non-covalent interactions of the thiophene/thiazole rings, were done by using the M06-2X functinal and LANL2DZ basis set for metal and halogen atoms and 6-311++G(d,p) standard basis set for the other atoms. The presence of sulfur atoms in the thiophene and thiazole rings leads to the σ-hole region with a positive electrostatic potential along the C-S bond. In this regard, the chalcogen interaction in the dimeric complexes of thiophene / thiazole rings, as the chalcogen bond donor group, with three distinct types of electron pair species as the acceptor of chalcogen bonding were investigated. The first acceptor species included the cyanide bond as a reference group with various substitutions of metal, halogen, and organic moieties. In the second group, various amines along with the NP and N_2 molecules were investigated against the five-member rings and the third category was described by H_2 Se, H_2 S, H_2 O molecules. In the second part of project, in order to investigate the cooperativity effect of π-π interaction and chalcogen bond, interaction of benzene and fluorobenzene moieties with thiophene / thiazole rings were studied in the trimeric complexes. The results indicated a dimunitive effect in the most benzene trimeric complexes while the additive effects were observed in the fluorobenzene trimeric complexes. Moreover, atoms in molecules (AIM) and natural bond orbital (NBO) analyses were performed for some of complexes.
