In the late years of the 19th century, the content and form of the classic theater was changed. Maurice Maeterlinck, the Belgian playwright, created a new dramatic genre called as Static Drama. His theories about theater caused the change in this literary genre in the twentieth century and the creation of modern theater. Some years later, another playwright called “Samuel Beckett” extended these innovations and entered them in his plays. “The Blind” written by Maurice Maeterlinck and “Waiting for Godot” by Beckett are similar to each other from many aspects. Therefore, most likely, Beckett has written “Waiting for Godot” impressed by Maeterlinck because in both of these two works, “death and waiting” are their main themes. In this thesis, focusing on the difference of these two playwrights’ works and the traditional ones, we intend to study the themes of death and waiting in the mentioned works and respond to the following questions: what is the relation between the characteristics of dramatic genre in these two works and their themes of death and waiting? Are death and waiting in the two above dramas being processed identically? What is the role of symbols in conveying the connotations induced by death and waiting?.
