Artcyclopedia Links to art galleries and museums worldwide
We receive requests for inclusion every day. However we are only slowly adding new artists, mainly because we draw information from so many sources that it takes several hours to add each artist. You are welcome to suggest yourself or another artist for inclusion, but in most cases it is not possible.
Keep in mind that Artcyclopedia is a form of Internet search engine. The main mode of searching within the site, and the main way that web surfers find their way to us, is a search on an artist's name. Therefore, this is what we generally look for:
- There must be sufficient information spread around the Internet for us to add value. In the most extreme case, if the only high-quality information about an artist is at his or her own website, then web surfers are better served by just staying on Google.
- There must be sufficient awareness of the artist's name. If nobody is searching for the artist, then nobody will end up at the artist page anyway. The existence of a page on Artcyclopedia will do little if anything to promote the artist.
- We are looking for "museum-quality art". However we have no desire to be gatekeepers, i.e. arbiters of quality and merit, so we normally take our cue from museum curators worldwide. If they are collecting and showing an artist's work, that's a signal to us that the artist has significance.

ENCYCLOPEDIA OF AMERICAN STUDIES
American Studies has its roots in efforts in the early twentieth century to interpret American culture and society holistically. As the field or discipline has evolved, practitioners frequently mentioned stylistic, organizational tendencies such as an integrative view of "seeing things whole," "examining the big picture," or thinking thematically and critically; orientation toward addressing problems, patterns, and issues of American society in "intersectional ways" or "multiple dimensions," including a variety of non-traditional evidence in visual and material culture; considering the influence, often overlapping, of local, regional, national, and global contexts, particularly in the production of folk and popular expressive cultural forms; an applied project as sociocultural criticism to reform America or convey intellectual perspectives to a wider public and professions in a variety of institutions (e.g., museums and heritage organizations, government, community and cultural agencies, K-12 education, medical, business and legal professions); and a bridge (or the frequently used metaphor of "crossroads") between, and comparative project of, humanities and social sciences, and sometimes science and technology, focused on a crucial, and complex, geopolitical area, and idea, of the world. In sum, as expressed in an entry in the encyclopedia, American Studies identifies and interprets themes, patterns, trends, behaviors, traditions, and ideas that characterize the United States as a nation, an experience, a rhetoric, and peoples-past, present, and future; at home and abroad (or in counter-conceptualizations transcending borders); and in thought and action. In short, as a disciplinary as well as multidimensional intellectual enterprise, American Studies is uniquely constructed to seek an understanding of Americanness. |

STANFORD ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PHILOSOPHY
Welcome to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (SEP). From its inception, the SEP was designed so that each entry is maintained and kept up-to-date by an expert or group of experts in the field. All entries and substantive updates are refereed by the members of a distinguished Editorial Board before they are made public. Consequently, our dynamic reference work maintains academic standards while evolving and adapting in response to new research. You can cite fixed editions that are created on a quarterly basis and stored in our Archives (every entry contains a link to its complete archival history, identifying the fixed edition the reader should cite). The Table of Contents lists entries that are published or assigned. The Projected Table of Contents also lists entries which are currently unassigned but nevertheless projected. |

WEBOPEDIA (computer)
Webopedia is an online tech dictionary for IT professionals, educators and students. We provide definitions to words, phrases and abbreviations related to computing and information technology. Our goal is to provide easy-to-understand definitions, avoiding the use of heavy jargon when possible so that the site is accessible to users with a wide range of computer knowledge.
Experienced editors gather information from standards bodies, leading technology companies, universities, professional online technical publications, white papers and professionals working in the field. Definition are verified among multiple sources; definitions are never based on just one source.
Webopedia definitions evolve and change as technology and standards changes, so definitions are frequently updated to reflect trends in the field. New terms are added on a regular basis, and many of the new terms we include in the database are suggested by the site's users.
In addition to a definition of the term or phrase, Webopedia also provides in-depth articles, study guides and links to sources of further information on the topic where applicable.
Webopedia is proud to be part of the IT Business Edge Network. |
